In my inner-city neighborhood peace and quiet are rare, especially around three-day weekends in the summer. Last night, the night before Memorial day, someone down the street was setting off fireworks and I thought to myself, boy they have their holidays mixed up.
But then I remembered another post I wrote about Memorial Day. In that post I explained how in Israel their Independence Day is the day right after their Memorial Day.
Our Independence Day follows Memorial Day by some weeks, and these two days, in both countries, have more in common than we realize.
On Memorial Day we honor and mourn our dead, poppies symbolize the dead, the red petals signifies the blood shed and perhaps for some, a promise of eventual resurrection. On Independence Day in America and Israel we “turn our tears into dancing” and celebrate the birth of our nations.

According to the court, apparently the woman’s mental issues were responsible for the way she killed Richard Rutkowski. Even though the wife called her husband “retarded” and predicted killing him by saying something like: “You will be dead very soon”, the court did not believe this was evidence of premeditation.

Obama hates Israel and disrespects Netanyahu and Jews. When it comes to folks he likes, such as the president of Mexico, Venezuela and the Muslim Brotherhood he bends over backwards. When it comes to Israel Obama is the new Arafat.

Israel celebrated her Independence Day a few days ago and the mainstream media seems to relish the opportunity not to recount and praise the struggle for freedom and our half-century plus strong alliance, but rather to disparage, malign and condemn her with outright lies to subtle half-truths and skewed reporting.
Israel declared her independence in May 1948 and was recognized as a country, free from Great Britain, by the United Nations and Harry S. Truman, the president of the Untied Sates at the time.
What’s very interesting and not widely known is that Israel celebrates her Independence Day, strange as it may seem, the day after her Memorial Day. It’s like two contrasting or conflicting holidays, one following the next, with emotions switching between two ends of the spectrum.

All of a sudden there are flat-screen T.V.s every where you go. I find this annoying, not only because the volume is way too high, but it seems the favorite station chosen for the great masses, for some mysterious reason is CNN. (I like to call it the “Communist News Network” due to it’s obvious liberal slant, its omnipresence in corporate America, even though you never chose it, it’s just there, almost as if they are watching you.)
There is a debate raging about how much credit Obama deserves, or should take concerning the Navy SEALs killing of Osama bin-Laden. Obama certainly got a nifty boost in the polls this week and it seems he is playing it for all it’s worth and for as long as he can anyway.
He is headed off to Texas of all places today in an attempt to parlay his recent political capital gains into an attempt to have it both ways on immigration, and oh, yes, to pick up some cool cash at a fund-raiser while he is at it, of course.
I’ve adopted several animals and rescued house rabbits and even volunteered at a wildlife shelter, so I know a good cause when I see one. Promoting shelter pet adoption via the Ad Council’s “Shelter Pet Adoption Campaign” is a worthy cause. It’s a shame the feminists at the Ad Council let their bias against men get in the way of their message.
This is not the first time, if there is on thread that runs through this organization’s ads it’s an effort, sometimes subtle, often overt, to disparage men and boys and cast women as superior, physically, mentally and even emotionally.
They have a whole cable channel devoted to it, now the Ad Council is into the act. We’ve all seen them on T.V. or heard them on the radio, if it’s not klutzy pre-teen boys running around and falling into wells, it’s older men, with deer in the headlight looks, who can’t keep up jogging or with healthcare facts.
From “Lifeline” to political ads during the past election, many seem to have a thread… stupid males, mean bosses, dumb jock types or even abusive men and boys, even young boys depicted as “abusers in waiting“, take your pick. Now even dogs are getting into the act.
“Lassie” (another word for ‘female’) the name of a T.V. show from the ’50′s about a collie rescuing folks, has been dredged up to chide boys to be “more self-reliant”. (Turns out by the way, the dog playing the part of “Lassie” in the show was actually a male, so I can’t call her by the technical word for a female dog.)
The movie Falling Down (1993) staring Michael Douglas as Bill Foster, a divorced, laid-off defense worker struggling just to get to his young daughter's birthday party and bring her a birthday gift, in the so "Politically Correct" Los Angeles, California. Falling Down is the quintessential expose' and satire of Political Correctness and Feminism run amok in our nation.
I attempt, in some way, to personify Foster as "Mike Truman" and speak for many of the victims of the absurd political correctness we endure constantly.
